Cypress Mountain to Host Red Bull Hardline, The World’s Toughest Downhill Mountain Bike Race, In Its Canadian Debut

Vancouver’s North Shore, the birthplace of freeride mountain biking, welcomes the sport’s most extreme competition on October 17, 2026.

WEST VANCOUVER, BC, April 9, 2026: Cypress Mountain will host the first-ever Canadian edition of Red Bull Hardline on October 17, 2026, bringing the world's toughest downhill mountain bike race to Vancouver’s North Shore.

The invitation-only competition puts the planet's most elite male and female riders against a course so steep, rugged, and technically demanding terrain that simply finishing is considered a feat.

The Red Bull Hardline course at Cypress Mountain will be unlike any other downhill track on the circuit. Think massive jumps and gap sections, sheer drops exceeding 10 metres, technical rock gardens, and descents steep enough to make even the seasoned pros think twice. The course borrows elements from dirt jumping and BMX — features that aren’t permitted in traditional World Cup racing — making it unlike anything else in the sport.

“This event will introduce Cypress Mountain's terrain to a global audience of riders who've never seen what this mountain is capable of, Red Bull Hardline is a statement moment for Cypress, and we think it’s the beginning of a much bigger story for biking on this mountain.” —Matt Davies, General Manager, Cypress Mountain Resort.

The event marks only the third location in Red Bull Hardline’s history. Originally created in Wales in 2014 by legendary riders Dan and Gee Atherton, the race expanded to Tasmania in 2025. Canada now joins the exclusive location roster.

"Red Bull Hardline has grown so much over the years, and Cypress is the perfect place to push this to the next level and see the race grow even further," —Dan Atherton, one of Hardline’s original founders.

Homegrown Heroes Helping Shape the Course

Two of Canada's top riders, Jackson Goldstone and Gracey Hemstreet, have been working together with the Atherton brothers to design the Cypress Mountain course.

Jackson Goldstone claimed his first Red Bull Hardline title in 2022 and went on to win the 2025 UCI Downhill World Cup Overall title. Gracey Hemstreet made history by securing back-to-back victories at Red Bull Hardline Tasmania, making her the first woman in history to win two Red Bull Hardline events — after becoming the inaugural women's champion in 2025.

"After walking the future Red Bull Hardline track, I'm pretty intimidated but excited. I think this will be the best one yet. Everyone's going to be so stoked, and the crowd is going to be huge. Bringing Red Bull Hardline to Canada is something everyone has wanted, and it's super exciting it's finally happening,” —Gracey Hemstreet, the reigning Hardline champion.

What to Expect on Race Day

Red Bull Hardline British Columbia is a spectator-friendly event designed to put fans close to the action. The course’s natural amphitheater-style terrain and dramatic features make it ideal for on-mountain viewing, with massive jumps and steep drops visible from spectator zones. Details on ticketing and access will be announced in the coming months. For more information, visit redbull.com/hardline and follow @RedBullCanada.
