Child, Youth, Adult Level Charts

Please note: These levels are approximate and may be adjusted by your instructor at the beginning of the lesson.

Level 1: First Time

Will learn:

  • Orientation to Equipment
  • Stance and Balance, Basic Mobility
  • Sliding with centered stance
  • Snowplow stop
  • Intro to isolated turns and linked turns
  • Safety and Alpine Code
Level 2: Beginner
Bunny Hill to Easy Green

Already knows:

  • Snowplow stop and isolated turns

Will learn:

  • Chairlift usage
  • Improvement on linking turns
  • Pivoting and steering
  • Control speed and increase confidence
Level 3: Beginner Plus
Bunny Hill to Easy Green

Already knows:

  • Easy Rider Chairlift
  • Linking turns confidently
  • Controls speed on Easy Rider

Will learn:

  • High Speed Quad Chair usage (Lions and/or Eagle)
  • Intro to Collins/Panorama
  • Stem turns
  • Fast track to parallel
  • Skills emphasized are: stance, balance, steering, edging and pressure control
Level 4: Intermediate
Green Runs and Above

Already knows:

  • Comfortable skiing with speed on green terrain
  • Blue terrain is uncomfortable
  • Is skiing fully parallel (no wedge)

Will learn:

  • Skills emphasized are centered stance, pivoting, intermediate edging and pressure control, body separation
  • Intro to pole plant, timing and coordination
  • Techniques for steeper terrain
  • Techniques for varying snow conditions
Level 5: Advanced
Bunny Hill to Easy Green

Already knows:

  • Student is confident skiing with speed on blue terrain
  • Centered stance, intermediate steering
  • Solid pivoting skills to control speed on blue terrain

Will learn:

  • Intro to techniques that will help you on moguls and on steeper terrain
  • Advanced edging and pressure control
  • Intro to inclination and angulation
  • Improve separation and angulation to enhance pivoting and edging skills
  • Learn techniques to handle steeper, irregular terrain and variable snow conditions
  • Learn techniques and strategy for skiing moguls

Will learn:

  • Chairlift usage
  • Improvement on linking turns
  • Pivoting and steering
  • Control speed and increase confidence

  • Skating and using chairlift (one foot in binding)
  • Sliding with both feet in bindings
  • Safety and Alpine Code
Level 2: Beginner

Already knows:

  • One foot skating and unloading chairlift
  • Sliding with both feet in blindings

Will learn:

  • Review of chairlift usage
  • Controlled sliding and smooth stopping
  • Sliding on both heel and toe edge
  • Control of direction and speed
  • Increase confidence
Level 3: Beginner Plus
Bunny Hill to Easy Green

Already knows:

  • Control of direction and speed
  • Sliding on both heel and toe edge
  • Comfortable on one edge but not the other

Will learn:

  • Turning in both directions
  • Increasing and controlling speed with confidence
  • Managing steeper green slopes
Level 4: Intermediate
Green Runs and Above

Already knows:

  • Turning but not always comfortable
  • Sliding down blue terrain but not always turning

Will learn:

  • Turning Confidently
  • Tactical approaches to improve control and reduce fatigue
  • Maximizing the performance of your equipment
  • Confidence riding fast!
Level 5: Advanced
Green Runs and Above

Already knows:

  • Turning on green runs
  • Exploring the mountain
  • Sliding down black terrain but not always turning

Will learn:

  • Techniques for varying snow conditions
  • Intro to helpful techniques for bumps and on steeper terrain
  • True carved turns (no skidding)
  • Intro to freestyle and switch riding
